Asking for seasoned opinions

With the title I thought we were making chicken wings!

Personally, I have had good luck buying a used brand name tablet. Scour your local classified ads, should be one available, that is fairly new. We bought one of those amazon tablets for my father-in-law. It only lasted about a year before it started acting up with problems. Could've just been him though...

I’m quite fed up with Samsung. The devices come full of bloatware, some of which you can’t disable and the devices are built quite fragile. Personally, I’d go for a tablet aimed at industrial use.

I really enjoyed my time with the Honeywell EDA71. Free from bloat, rugged and comes with an interchangeable battery. For stationary use I’d probably get a tablet with PoE support.

I used a Fire HD8 on my Mini-Lathe TDRO and was happy with it so upgraded the 8" Galaxy I had on my Mini-Mill to a Fire HD 10. Refurbished (with extended warranty) Fire tablets are frequently available on both Amazon & Woot.

Charlie I have a fire tablet also and I did install the latest Touch DRO app on it. However I have 2 different DRO systems. The first gen and the latest gen. So I keep the Fire in the house and was using it to watch YT while riding my exercise bike but for some reason it is very very slow and I don't know how to speed it up. Any ideas on how to speed up the Fire?

Is a cellular tablet needed? If only used at home, a wireless tablet would do, and might be cheaper. None of the tablets we have at home have cellular connection, as we only use them in places with WiFi.
I only use WIFI on my tablets. Don't see a need to pay for more sim cards. So my only cellular is my I-phone

Sorry, I only use the Fire's for TouchDRO: I'm Mac-Based so use one of my iPads for portable entertainment.

I detest the bloatware. I had my son reformat my Dell Notebook with Linux just for that reason. It was slower than trying to pour mud off the sole of your shoes. The model I have does not allow for ram increase or replacing the hard drive so that was the only way I could speed it up. It now lives inside my Insect proof room with my mill and lathes. It is super handy. I have a 1TB external drive that has tons of pdf files on it and when working on a rebuild I can just open up a file and use it for reference. My son installed a fantastic WIFI booster on the outside of my shop and another inside the shop as a gift for me. I love it. No more forgetting what I was going to look up on the internet while going from shop to house . #OLD AGE AIN"T for Sissy's lol
