So, moving the tool crib at work, and dug this out, take it home they said, it's broke. Woohoo! You bet I will. The ratchet gear and pawl are missing, probably chinesium, only ID is YC on the bottom of casting. While I'm going to look for the parts, I'm not very confident. I'm thinking of machining a hex on the end of the shaft and just using a socket and 3/4 ratchet. Anyone recognize it or have a source? Other ideas? The shaft is 1.770 dia 3/8 keyway. If I go the hex route, I would like to do a minimal stock removal, on the off chance I come up with some parts, then I could put it back with the retaining collar being in contact with the hex, maybe use a longer set screw. Anyway, TIA for your opinions and advice.

Nice! I wonder if the ratchet would hold up though?

Nice find! Probably only have to make or buy a couple of pieces to make it racheting. I'll look at mine and see what's missing. Will try to make a sketch of the missing pieces.

Looks like a 'One Ton". I'm not sure what you'd gain with the ratchet, it would only give the option of a few short strokes instead of one long one.

I like the hex and socket solution, the one tonners that I have must be set where the handle has the best movement for the required stroke, your hex socket would solve that, as did the ratchet.

Here's a couple of pictures of mine. There's a rachet, a pawl and a ring with a set screw to hold everything on the shaft.

The shaft on my 3T press is 59mm. Looks like one could make the ratchet. The angles are less than 90, maybe 80-85 degrees. Maybe 90 would work.

I think you are right. It's a smaller unit. Ratchets are nice, but don't know if they are necessary for the smaller arbor presses. I do like the ratchet on mine, even though it's crude.

Looks like they broke the ratchet gear. I got one off eBay thinking I’d adapt it to my non ratchet 2tn. Ended up doing the MrWhoopee mod, much simpler and easier. you'd still need to make the ratchet pawl but that’s probably the easiest part.

Well, after further consideration, decided to forego the ratchet, and modify the rack. Got a hole bored in the pinion shaft today and started turning a handle from an old breaker bar. Been busy with heifers calving, have a trip to texas tomorrow, will try and get some pics soon.
