I just ordered/received two "military surplus" lights from The Sportsman's Guide and was pleasantly surprised when I opened the box. The lights are from Electrix Illumination, model 7227 - http://www.electrixtask.com/model_7227.htm

While the hood is plastic, the arms and springs seem to be of high quality metal construction and it's "Made in the USA".

Here's a link to the light on SG - (seems you have to be a "member" though) - http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/new-us-military-fluorescent-clamp-on-work-lamp.aspx?a=1001125

I'm putting one on the lathe tomorrow!

Hope someone can use this,

Believe it or not, I found a table lamp on a flexible goose neck with a circular lamp and a 5 power maginifier for 20 bucks on Feebay. Plenty tall for all but the largest lathes and has a cover to protect the lense from dirt and dust settling on the top. Heres a link:

I use mine for electronics boards, but the set up would be very nice on a lathe also. You could defnately be able to see micrometer settings and readings much more easilly and the light is pretty darn bright too.

Good find! It's a great deal when compared to the original price from Electrix, and it's only an extra $5 if you're not a club member.

Thought I would post my light installation -

As my lathe bench is wooden it was simplest to make a wooden support for the light...

The light is at the perfect height as is but I may end up re-doing the mount and make it taller so that I can get a little more flexibility out of the arm.
