Got this a while back , it is well made , a file dosn't touch anything but the screws, the shaft needs to be 9/16 for me to use it. Was wondering if anyone has one or has seen one before, any info on it ?.
The gear set is adjustable for preload thru slots in bottom, via eccentric brass bushings, the toolholder slides in v ways for ball / concave size . The hand wheel has 12 increment lines on it.image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpg
No manufacture name on it , wondering if it may of been shop made , if so one heck of a shop
Went thru it cleaned ,regressed, adjusted , I'll try making a shaft that fits my toolholder for it.
The shaft that's on it has indents from lockdown screws on it , I could not get a sharp file to touch anything but the screws, it is hard
Thanks for any info

I like the way you turn the handle to move it around to make the ball. Much easier to control that way.

yu are right if that was shop made they had a nice shop. It looks to be fully adjustable including tool height etc. Looks like you will have fun after getting it mounted we want to see some of the outcome.

I got some info for you.

It is made for my lathe only. I will pm you ma addy.

It looks shop made to me. If not first-hand shop made, then something that was farmed out by a shop to a local tool and die shop in the area. Looks extremely heavy duty. I was just talking about making one of these in another post I made. Not like this one though. The much simpler version. I like yours better. Maybe I could modify it to fit my lathe. Any access to a grinder to machine the shaft down?

It does look shop made. You could take it apart and make drawings for the rest of us.

Wish I had better drafting skills I would make prints for y'all. I took it apart for cleaning , regressing
Very well made !. My best guess would be it came from Germany, I got it at a Cl pick , the guys dad
Passed away ,he was selling bunches of high end tooling of his dad's, his dad was a master machinist from Germany. But if it was German would it have ( LOCK ) etched into it ?.
Can't find any local 4140 , think cold rolled would work for shaft , then get it hardened ?.

I made a shaft for it out of steel I had laying around , think it's cold rolled. It fits axa good , tool on center with axa in mid adjustment
I took it to the glass bead so tool marks went away,
I was thinking of trying to at least case harden it , eather use forge or torch, oil quench.
Will it help ? , how hot should I get it, I have a ir thermometer, red hot , yellow hot ?
It will probably just be used for brass or aluminum.
Any comments?.image.jpeg
