Anyone have a line on a good quality “Price is no option” set of spotting punches?

Just got two brand new sets of Spelmanco spotters and the quality SUCKS!

No longer blued which I can deal with, but the points are crumbling on them under regular use.

Plus I pulled one out to use today and there was a big hickey on the Spode that had to be ground off so it would fit into the hole, punch was no where near tight in the hole like I want, so it was a decent size burr.

Probably .050-.060.

Any suggestions?

You talking transfer punches ? If so , the old Spellmans used to be great . I guess quality has gone down over the years .

Yeah, transfer, spotting, pointed stick, I’d call them Shirley if they like as long as they hold up.

This “was” the premier brand.

For my Hobby use the run of the mill ones on eBay are fine (I got mine from LMS long ago).

If you want something fancy, check these out:

Now back in stock after @FOMOGO started a mass buying on them earlier this year:

I’ve seen that style before and like them, but they wouldn’t fit our application.

We’re spotting holes in sheet metal for shimming die steels and that style would not reliably center on all of the different style holes an average die steel has.

Bolt holes and dowel holes they would work for, die bushings and clearanced holes not so much.
