Im moving cross-country at the end of the month and wanted to see if anyone on the board was in my new local area. Im moving to the Montgomery area more specifically Wetumpka. Let me know if your interested in meeting up or if there is a local shop group. Thanks, Jeff

First entry, yaahhh.....

I am in the Birmingham area (35212). Stuck in a wheelchair though. But close enough to the interstate, I-65 as well as I-59 and 20. My shop is in a seperate, unheated building. Since I am so slow moving, I stay inside during the cold months. I can walk with a walker, but being unsteady on my feet, Wife doesn't allow me to run much of my machinery. Unless she's not looking.....

I have been down for a couple of years so don't know many shops, even locally. Most of the heavy industry (mills) have been put out of business. Mostly the EPA, and lately by the Chinese. There is a lot of stuff, bankers don't know what to do with it so end up scrapping most. Sour attitude? Yeah, I do have a very bad attitude. But I saw most of the mills shutdown in my day.

The machining is a hobby, not a profession. But I will help as & when I can. I am a (retired) electrical engineer with background in steel mill automation.

Welcome to the deep south, where time moves a little slower than the rest of the country.

I am not is the Alabama area but just across the Georgia line in Hogansville which is 116 miles from Wetumpka. Maybe not close enough to help but just wanted to let you know that I am in the area. I am a retired software consultant who began my life as a machinist and tool & fixture maker. I have a small shop which is fully equipped with machine tools as well as wood working equipment. I also enjoy reloading and want to get into gun smithing at some point.

Welcome to South where as Bill Hudson said life moves a little slower.
