I agree.
The shop manual often show tools that we don't have in the home shop and we have to make our own tools as your have done. Great job using the washers. I often pick up heavy washers and collars when in the junk yard as they can come in handy as you have shown and they are cheap. It seems that the washers found in the hardware stores no longer have any body and strength.
