I don't really feel like as much of a beginner these days, but no expert either, hah hah! But this sounds to me like a beginner question.

I have a DTM QCTP and just acquired a #6 holder, same as an Aloris #6. So---- WHAT is this bolt that goes up from the bottom and is ground flush with the top, and is visible in the tool holding area?

Also curious what most folks are doing with a holder like this- is it meant for more than one tool at a time?

Thanks!

Bernie

Hi
#6 Multiple Tool Holder
Versatile, ideal for repetitive work: for gang set-up or form tool.
This is from the Aloris catalog.

Thanks Jeff- so I got that right... But does anyone have any idea what that bolt is for??

Is that the screw protruding into the toolholder slot? Non threaded?

Looks like it COULD be a toolholder butt.

My WAG would be that it may be to help reduce flexing with the clamping screws. You might want to shoot Aloris a email and ask. That one thing I discovered about Aloris, They just assume everybody knows how to use their tool holders. No instructions, explanations or suggested uses for them.

Used to reduce flex in the tool holder when tightening set screws??? I could see that if your're using a impact wrench to tighten the set screws.
I've seen this model tool holder listed in the Aloris catalog for over 40 years, but have never owned a No. 6 holder. Never saw a need for one.
A stop for a cutting tool, I'll buy that.

Are we referring to the height adjustment screw/mechanism? I'm not sure what exactly what your referring too.

The bolt goes all the way through and is used to adjust the height of the cutting tool.

If that's not what we're talking about...gee am I embarrassed!

Wrong bolt. There another one shown in the third picture he's referring to. Nothing to do with the height adjusting screw.

The fly cutter marks on the tool holder are probably not put there by Aloris. The grind their tool holders nicely. I think we are looking at a shop made modification, no idea what it is/was for...
