When I installed my tach input I went directly from the sensor to the Touch DRO board with the wires. The only thing added between the sensor and the board where some connectors for ease of installation and to prepare for the new board that is due to arrive today. One thing to watch our for is the pickup sensor that I used is polarity sensitive. Not sure if all are but I would assume so.
