ABS threads

what kind of threads are on ABS plastic fittings??? Is PVC the same threads? How would you cut ABS threads on your home mill?

I'm pretty sure they're not tapered thread like pipe is, but I couldn't tell you offhand exactly what they are. I have, however, been successful in using the black ABS clean-out caps in white PVC fittings, so at least in the bigger sizes they appear interchangable.

Most PVC pipe is threaded npt “national pipe thread” which is tapered. You can also get it in a straight thread which isn’t tapered. ABS is just the composition of material not threads right?
