Abrasive surface grinder questions

I am looking for a used 5X10 or 6X12 abrasive surface grinder for a small hobby shop. I would like a bench model or one with a relative small footprint. I see brands like Doall, Reid, Brown & Sharpe and K.O.Lee. My question is are there brands or types to stay away from, and brands much better than others? Also do they make quite a mess during operation without dust collection?? I am hoping to find something in good shape in the $500 or more price range, or is this too much to hope for?

For hobby shop purposes, I wouldn't be too concerned with brands. I have a 20 year old Enco from Taiwan that I am very happy with. You never know what will turn up. If it has been cared for and functions well, it will probably serve you well.

I have a Brown & Sharpe 612 Valuemaster surface grinder I'm reconditioning as time will allow. I paid $400 for it and spent $700 to get it shipped to my location. And so far, have about another $300 tied up in a new surplus motor and VFD. And it is not running yet!
It'll be a half way decent SG for what I want one for. I also have a Taiwanese built T & C grinder also that can do SG, but not as nice.
