Hi All,

Now that I have my lathe, naturally I can't help but shop for a mill. I'm considering several PM offerings (as well as the g0704). To owners of either flavor of 727, have you found the relatively short X axis travel to be limiting? That's the one place where this mill seems deficient compared to it's compatriots. Thanks!

Depends on what you are doing. You will find in the majority of cases the limiting factor is more the Y travel (and Z height), not the X travel. Add a DRO scale to the back and you loose another inch or more of Y travel. G0704 Y travel is 6-7/8" PM 727 is 8 1/2", that is more significant in my book. If you want more X travel than step up to the PM-30MV.

I have a PM727V. I am building clocks, model IC engines, and tools. Semi small stuff. So it meets the needs. One thing to note, you put a 5" vice on the table and your Y travel really gets reduced. That impact is probably the case regardless of who mill you get. Also, I got DRO installed and I don't see it impacting the Y travel. Overall, the PM727V is a good fit for me.

in my limited experience no matter how much you have there will always be that project that will require you to need more. I've run into that several times on my 727. You just have to be realistic about what projects you take on.

Thanks all. Ended up selecting the PM30mv after a really difficult decision between that and the 932m.
