I recently purchased a pair of old atlas machines (10100 & 10200). After spending a couple hours cleaning and manipulating the metric 10200 it seems to be in good shape. The other lathe (10100 standard) looks like it was dropped by the PO. He didn’t want to admit to it but the shaft on the 1/3 HP drive motor was bent and the plastic cover for the headstock is in pieces.

Is it worth it to even worry about the damaged lathe? The important stuff looks unscathed with the exception of the hand wheel shaft for the carriage. It is wobbly. Mind you I haven’t checked everything with accurate measuring tools yet

I’m new to lathe machine world so please excuse my terminology. if incorrect. Thanks
 
Can you post pictures yet? That will help us help you. Post photos of the plate with the model and serial numbers as well.
 
I have one- mine's pretty worn but I have made a lot of parts with it. It takes a 2L belt size- around 29-30 inches- if you shop around
you can find them online for just a few dollars. Ebay wants like 30$. I think I got mine from USA bearings and belts
Check the spindle back gear mechanism; they are sometimes messed up:
To engage back gear pull out the spindle collar on the left end of the spindle and pull up on the lever in back

It's nice you have the steady rest and milling attachment, they are valuable accessories
Did you get any change gears? Or collets?

Not sure what you mean by worth it to worry about the damaged lathe. If you mean scrap it, I'd say no, I'm sure you could find someone interested in fixing it up if you aren't.

Even as a project or parts machine these are usually worth a few hundred dollars.
 
As to whether or not you should restore both, it depends upon whether you need to do both inch and metric or not. If so, restore both. If not, restore the one that you need and part out the other one after completing the restoration.
 
Sorry for the delay in posting these. I’m not exactly sure if I need both machines. I have them so I’ll continue on and begin setting them up as if I am keeping them both.

The old gent that had them intended on fixing the standard and using the metric for parts. I like the flexibility of being able to easily use both systems of measurement.

Off setting the lathes would take up the smallest foot print and still make them accessible. Am I setting myself up for disappointment with this line of thinking? I thought I’d weld up a frame and use these pieces of 3x6 for the mounts.

After locating a used 1/3 hp motor I see that the step pulley is 5/8” and most modern motors use a 1/2” shaft. This looks to be a common sized bushing that is readily available.
