Hey guys (and gals!),

It's hard for me to believe, but we are up to 3100 members!

You mean to tell me that my mean-spirited, gruff, nasty, hard-line approach to this hasn't scared ya'all away yet? :angryfire: :slapping:

DANG! Gotta try harder!!

Seriously, this is due to Tony and the moderators, and all the hard work they do, keeping things nice and friendly, and helping you all out.

I can't say enough for Tony. He is the Dr. Jekyll to my Mr. Hyde. He runs the place with the Christian spirit I have always aspired to, and gives people a chance.
Try as I might, I fall short in that category- luckily he is here to let me know when I do.

I hope to do better, and I apologize sincerely for my shortfalls. This is supposed to be a nice, friendly place, and it all starts with the people who run it.
If there is anyone out there who wants to join, but is worried about joining a forum that I own, please, have them contact me so we can work things out.
Life is very, very short, and grudges are unnecessary, at least from my perspective. If people want to hold onto them, fine, but I would rather not.

Hope the coming holiday season brings a lot of health and happiness to each and every one of you.
God bless!

Nelson I read all those bad things they said about you on other sites. I didn't think you could be all the bad so I joined the old site.

And I found out that it was a bunch of crap.

And you have been here ever since! (As reflected in your profile showing Sept 2010 when the forum began).
Thanks for your longtime support Paul!

Ya know, it's funny how this place started...
It didn't start because of other sites. It started because I had machines and needed information on them so that I could get them running one day when I had time, either in my spare time after work or when I retired. I wanted (still want) to do a lot of machining when I retire. I figured I needed a "base" to put information I needed for myself so that I could access it one day. I needed some questions answered when I began to work on my stuff. I needed a place to put info I found on the net that would help me. I also needed a place to put answers to questions I needed answers to. One day walking to work, I began to think that I could use a personal website to put my resume if I ever needed a job. So I signed up with a cheap shared web host that day (around September 10 or 11th, 2010). And I registered my name as a domain name (www.nelsontimken.com). While looking over their cpanel, I noticed that they had forum software that you could get for free. Their system even installed it for you! It was SMF- Simple Machines Forum. So I installed it on my account, even though I knew nothing about running a forum. Then I needed a domain name, one that described the forum. Well, I am only a hobby-machinist, not a professional, just a guy who wears a suit, but really likes getting his hands dirty when he can. I looked around domain name sellers. HobbyMachinist.com was taken, and I can't see paying a premium for a name. Besides, hobby-machinist, with a hypen, is proper grammer. So I picked that name on the 12th or 13th of September, 2010. I also found the perfect logo, a guy who is half in a suit with a briefcase and half in overalls with a wrench- in other words, a hobby-machinist. Being a maniac, I put the forum up right away and told people about it. The next day either I screwed up the database or someone hacked us, because the forum was down. Database was messed up. I was pretty upset. After a day or so down, I decided to try again. On the 14th or 15th of September, 2010, I put the forum up again. Not knowing any better, I began to add things I saw that looked helpful on the internet. I also began asking questions I needed to know, or thought I would need to know one day. I also figured that, if others like me were going to come here, there should be some ground rules that newbies shouldn't and couldn't be tortured as they struggled to learn.

A lot has happened in the 2 years and almost 3 months since then.
It's a lot of water under the bridge.
I'm still an ******* to some, and they are entitled to their opinion of course.
But, we're still here, and we have 3100 members, and we're helping each other, and having fun.
God bless us for that! :drinkingbeer:

Thanks Nelson and all the moderators .

In the words of Gomer Pyle "Thank Ya, Thank Ya, Thank Ya"
As a newbie, I appreciate all the hard work of all of the moderators, and especially the owner of this site. In the couple of weeks since joining, I have read about 80 peercent of the posts in the general machining section and some of each of the other sections.
I am amazed at the level of knowledge and experience which is shared in such a friendly (it's almost as if everyone here were native Texan) arena. I learn something everytime i open the forum.
Again, Thanks to all and hopefully the forum will continue to grow.
Dale:thumbsup:
