2014 POTD Thread Archive

I am teaching myself to cut threads on the lathe. After several attempts I finally have a mating inside and outside thread pair. Made to 1-1/8 - 12
Hopefully a few more and I will have it repeatable.

great job !

I just got a G4003G this year
1st time I ever threaded was internal 16mm-1.50tpi
was much easier then I ever thought it would be.

Light Ring for my Bridgeport Quill

Today I made all the parts to hold a 110mm X 126 LED light ring and cover to be used on my Bridgeport mill. I utilized the existing three plastic clips on the cover to snap and hold everything together for assembly. Then used clear silicone rubber on all the seams to keep out oils and other crap. The light works OK, wish it was not so blue though. It’s the wrong color temperature for me. I would prefer a more white in color…Dave

The G4003 I have is the first and only Lathe I have ever owned or used so I have nothing to compare it with. It has been a great lathe to learn on and I am sure it it up to anything that I am likely to want to do.

That being said, I'd get the 1/2" shank set...may have a little more rigidity when you have a tool extended farther than normal for that little extra clearance.

Not a problem man, glad I could help. Be careful with the parting and grooving holder that comes with, I used mine for maybe 5 parting operations and the bottom flange under the insert just broke.....the insert was still brand new on one side lol Iscar said it was probably because the heat treatment process was a little off, just a flaw of cheaper tooling. Again I own the 1/2" set and have been very pleased other than the threading insert and parting tool.

I finished up a couple of items yesterday. First was a set of hub-centric adapters for the wheel spacers for my 79 Mustang. The wheels I had and the suspension setup required 1/2" less offset than I had and I don't like relying on the studs to center the wheels. The correct hub-centric spacers were not readily available, so I adapted a plain set.

Then I finished up the shifter knob I'd started a week or so back for the T5 that going in the car.
