That's a heap o' lathe for 700$, taper attachment even, steady, collet closer
Wish I was next door

Yeah I know, just getting lazy- what I would really like is a Bradford metalmaster of around that same vintage- they're gorgeous
I looked for Axelson on the Lathes.co.uk site but it's not listed
Does it have tapered rollers in the headstock? Anyone here own one?
Edit: looks like the later Axelsons are excellent and very desirable- this is an earlier one but probably pretty good. A more versatile motor arrangement compared to the later unitized motor mount
Not a huge hole thru the spindle but one heck of a deal

Axelson, not one to pass up. $700 normally isn't even a lathe chuck. With MANUALS! Judge a lathe initially by the length of the headstock, that is SERIOUS spindle support. Every bit tough as a Monarch. A tremendous amount of these were in oilfields and shipyards, discriminating customers. Small spindle bores were not looked down on.
I don't know where they commissioned castings, but they had at least one shop working in Long Beach, CA.
