1946 Monarch 10EE tool room lathe - $3,900 (Tustin, CA)

Hard not to suspect that all the good bits made it over to the one that's not for sale...

That aside, I think these had a vacuum-tube speed controller, essentially the VFD of the day. If it works, that's pretty amazing, but if you buy it, assume that a VFD is probably in its future.

The WWII 10EEs had MG sets for the DC drive. over on Practical Machinist, there are experts on rebuilding these.

I converted my WWII era 10EE to a VFD and three phase motor. it has ran me well for 20 years now. IMHO, this is the best lathe ever made for the hobbyist.

Agree on them apparently being mechanical perfection, but don't they have a fairly small spindle bore (in comparison to contemporary lathes)?

Yep, bore is 1.5"

Oh, that's actually not bad. I guess I was thinking of the high-end Hardinge that has a surprisingly small bore.

Can't tell you how many times i wished it was 1.55

1 3/8 is the largest it takes, Seems like I've had all kinds of needs for 1 1/2 stock.
