Hi,
I was given this by a Gentleman that bought it and never got it running.

I'm now looking at the Starter which is an Allen Bradley 709AAA1A.

This is a 3 Phase Grinder.

At the top of the switch there are 4 terminals for L1,L2,L3 Power Connections.

However, I can not be sure if the power in terminals being used (3 out of 4?) are the correct ones?

Being there are 4 instead of the usual 3.

Any ideas on this is appreciated.

Would like to clean everything and refurb but was thinking to install a real cord and fire it up first?

Hi,
Well, while looking at the pic of the schematic, it jumped out at me.

Seems the 4th terminal on the left is for the control button side?

I think I will get a power cord and try it?

Any problem with that before cleaning?

The black, white, and green are the power- although it's bad practice to use green as a power wire
Green should be reserved for ground only

Hi,
Yes, this is how I received it.

I want to get a real power cord and hook it up.

Just do not want to burn anything.

I want to clean and then rebuild everything but thought I would see if it would even run.

No real info from previous Owner!

Yes the correct cord would have 4 conductors- 3 power + ground
3 phase wire colors are usually black, white, and red
Ground can be green, green with yellow stripe, or just bare copper

Hi,
It's funny, every other Pic I can find, they have a small Switch, but this one has a full blown AB Mag Switch and...

It looks like the Power Cord comes out of the bottom at the front and held by the front clamp you can see.

NO, holes anywhere in the base?

Hi,
Well, got into it a little today...

Took my VOM and did a continuity test between the 3 windings, and...

Came up with 8.1 ohms between all 3 in relation to each other, so...

Hooked up power and it would not run.

The Starter Switch would hum when the start button was pushed and held, but nothing else.

The Switch is full of old dust so will take pics and notes and disconnect everything and see if I can clean it, and do a inspection for obvious problems.

If anyone has troubleshoot these old Starters, I'm all ears!

Hi,
Well wired the Grinder up straight wire and it runs!

The problem is the switch, pulled it from the box and looking for problems notice the reset button does not move?

Here is a pic, any ideas???

Trying not to destroy anything, feeling in the dark on this.

Disconnect power. Use a non conductive non flammable spray oil/ cleaner and clean the mechanism first while trying to move the levers. Allen Bradley 504?

Hi,
Thanks, did that and got the Reset Switch to now move.

It pushes down on the right leg and goes past the left leg?

Is that correct, I do not know.

I have no schematic or parts list, no vids on rebuilding one of these.

Trying not o hurt anything but need more info.

The model as stated in original post is, AB 709AAA1A...

Thanks again!
