I have a Marvel 22 conversion for a 1911 with adjustable sights. I wanted to mount a red dot sight to the pistol for open division in Steel Challange. Marvel wants $92 for the top rail that will accept rail mount sights. A trip to the local Iron and Metal yard and $2.50 bought me a piece of aluminum so I could machine one. First thing I needed was a 5/8 ball mill to cut the barrel channel. God old ebay provided a new one shipped for $12.50. Took some measurments off the top piece that had the fixed sights and went to work. About an hour and a half later I had a top rail made, mounting holds drilled to attach to the barrel and the C-more holes drilled. Cleaned it up and went to the back garage where I have a Harbor Freight powder coat system. Using flat black powder paint and a 20 minute bake at 400 I was realy to mount it up. Had to make a trip to the hardware store to get proper Allen head mount screws (4-40) and mount it up. 10 round of ammo and was sighted in at 20 yards. A worthwhile couple of hoursimage.jpgDon't know why it is upside down but if I touch the image it bring it up correctly

That's gorgeous work - even upside down!

Next time you have it apart, can you shoot some pics of the piece you made? Hard to tell what is the mount and what is the sight itself/

Nice work.

Those Marvel conversions are marvelously precise. Would like to see the base as well, with my eyesight I struggle with irons, leaning towards optical sight on my Marvel.

Steel Challenge: wow, that brings back memories (good ones too).

Very nice work on the pistol too. :)

It is the piece that you can see with the two screws towards the front. I have to remove the C-more red dot to access the third screw that attaches the rail to the fixed barrel. Do not want to do so at this time as I have no place to check zero if I removed it. I will make another one when I return but that will be a couple of months from now. Will post here then
