Forums are structured like a tabbed index:

Here is the simplest structure:

Main Forum

Threads are likes topics of discussion. Messages are the actual conversations posted by members.

Hobby Machinists have a lot to talk about; naturally, there are many categories of forums:

Sometimes, a popular Forum will develop sub categories of discussion topics. These are called sub-forums. They act just like forums and can contain threads and messages.

Because of the sheer volume of messages (over 1/2 million and counting on Hobby-Machinst) a navigation of these forums, sub-forums, threads and messages is necessary. Here is an illustration, of what was explained above:

Once you click on a Forum, the navigation looks the same, but new subforums and new threads appear. Here is a detailed explanation of the different forum elements on your screen:
