A socket taper can be measured by dropping a smaller ball into the socket and measuring the depth to where it seats. A larger ball is then dropped in the socket and it its seating depth is measured.
To use this spreadsheet, enter the measured values for the diameters of the two balls used and the calculated distance between the balls when inserted into the socket into cells c2 -C4. The distance is measured from center to center so remember to correct for the difference in diameter.
The calculated half angle of the taper is given in cell C5
