Merry Christmas!

Dave

Many years ago when I was in the army I learned how to make a neat little game called " PUT and Take" a game where you make a spinning top with 8 sides . Once top is made any number can play. Players all put a penny in the pot and then top is spun and when it falls the side on top tells what to do. Three sides are each stamped p1, p2, p3, three sides are stamped t1, t2, t3 and one side is stamped ap and the last side is stamped ta. When the player spins and the top shows p1 player put 1 penny in pot . If top shows t2 player takes 2 pennys and so on. When top shows ap all players put in a penny, When top shows ta spinner takes all from pot and games start over.

I used to make the tops out of brass. Any size works. I will try to find a photo.

That sounds durn near like a Dreidel - the 4-sided top you use to play for "Gelt" (chocolate coins wrapped in gold or silver foil) on Hanukkah. http://judaism.about.com/od/holidays/a/dreidel.htm
