[How do I?] Wilton Vise Nut - Supposed To Be Loose?

Hi all,

I'm restoring a 1974 Wilton C2 vise, and i noticed that the nut inside the main casting has some wobble to it. Is it supposed to float like that? Or should it be rigidly fixed to the base/casting?

I can't recall if my Wilton vise nut is loose - too long ago. However, my Parker vise nut is loose. The nut slot casting is rough, as is the nut which is hand-filed to fit.
