Will A Bridgeport Shaper Head Work On A Sharp Vm?

That is the question I was asked today.

A friend has ordered a Sharp Vertical Milling machine and asked me if the Bridgeport shaper attachment he has will work on it.

Never seen a Sharp mill in person and have no clue as to whether it will work or not. I do hear the Sharp brand vertical mills are nice.

I know there seems to be much debate on Bridgeport shaper head's merits, he just wants to know if it is going to mount on his machine and work.

A great many mills are compatible. Look at the back of the ram. There needs to be a bushing shape about three inch thick with an about one inch diameter hole.

From the photos I have seen of some sharp millers it should fit. The back of the ram on the photos I have seen have the flat horizontal mounting for the head.
