[Source] Where's a Good Place to get Mild Steel and Al in E. Bay CA?

Nope, but I did buy an obscenely expensive piece of 1/4" plate at Lowes.
Ouch!! You could have driven to Sacramento and bought everything you wanted for what you paid for the plate is my guess. An FYI if you're in the Sacramento area, check out ABC Supply on 27th and R St. They deal in non-ferrous and have remnants for sale by the pound. I don't go there often because I usually purchase full lengths and they are more expensive than my suppliers but they are a good source for tube solid stock etc. Stainless, brass, copper, aluminum. They're a small family supply house and they price based on convience. I know transportation and hours are an issue for you. I checked the links to some of the steel supply places mentioned here and I try to steer clear of fabrication/sales places because their prices are marked up, and expensive too.

Hi ACHiPo,
i'm sorry to be late to the party here, but there is Naylor Steel- Hayward Ca ( http://www.naylorsteel.com/ )

i'm over the Altamont Pass in Tracy, but i got to Universal Service Recycling ( http://usrscrap.com/what-we-sell/ ) in Stockton
when i buy scrap stuff

I buy new stuff (ferrous and non ferrous alike) from Totten Tubes Inc, in Lathrop
( http://www.tottentubes.com/northerncalifornia )

if you need some immediate materials, i'd be happy to share what i have available- i live less than a half hour away :)

One of the advantages to owning or having access to a business is commercial delivery to your door. For anyone in this area or anyone who would choose to drive in, I am willing to get material quoted for you or bring it in. If you need a specific piece or just happen to be looking for a remnant let me know.

that is a very generous offer!

members in the area could also add me to the list of small remnant/scrap sources
i come across aluminum, stainless, electrical controls, and electric motors all the time

Not my intent to pull out the salt shaker but I have 8-10 pieces of 4'x 6' x 1/8" floor plate I've tried to move for 15 yrs. Two plug welded together, smooth side up and a handshake would have made you a good work table. It was a mistake an engineer made and I explained I couldn't run it through my put-em'-back machine and restock it. I'm down to about a fourth of what I started with.

Mike,
Thanks!

I'm currently traveling out of the country on business, but will reach out to you in the next couple weeks.

RP,
The wound wasn't too deep--$25 for a 12x12" plate--but it should cost about $3 based on weight. I did fit just fine in my trunk though.

I'll PM you re: plate.

I've heard good things about Maxx Metals in San Carlos. Though I have not personally purchased from them yet.

O.K. ACHiPo, I've got a much more important question than all of this buying steel stuff. Tell me about the photo of the Cobra dash in your Avatar. Is that yours ?

Yep! :D
It's a 1999 Superformance, and is one of the main reasons for me going down the rabbit hole.

Edit: Actually I stand corrected--the picture in my avatar was one of my buddy's cars--an ERA street 427, and I am in the process of building one very much like it. I've changed my avatar to my SPF 427 S/C dash.
