Anyone know where I could find a bull gear for my 10L? I tore down the head to refelt and paint and noticed a tooth is chipped off the bull gear. I'd reather replace than try and repair.
I'm doing that, but I have the whole lathe apart for paint andooverhaul and am getting close to putting it back together. I don't want to be stuck waiting for eBay when I go to reassemble.
grind the bottom of the space where the tooth is missing flat. Then drill and tap 3 or 4 holes for an appropriate sized screw (10-32?). Loctite in screws (brass would be nice), cut off the heads level to the top of neighbouring teeth, then shape to match the neighbouring teeth. Fancier would be to slather the screws with JB Weld first, then grind to match. Super fancy would be to braze around the screws, then grind to match.
Might be a little noisier but I doubt you'd notice. Then you can take your time looking for a replacement, or, if you're not bothered, save yourself some money to spend on something else
