When to back the tool out from the work?

If cutting in X while moving in y you can move back in y off the part without impacting depth of cut in x.

If using carbide try to avoid a stopped tool touching anything.

I've always heard good things about the Factory Five kit, and yours is a beautiful example. I had built several Corvettes for SCCA competition in the 70's, and I did consider building one of the Cobra kits in the 80's. I got married instead, and my better half wasn't so keen on the idea. I made the right choice though, and honestly don't what to roll around on the garage floor again.

Thanks for the comments Bill. We have had a lot of fun with the Corvette club on the track.
I was lucky. The build was a 50th BP from my better half. Actually looking to move it out of the shop in the spring and look for another project.
