What machines do I need for this project?

The PM1054-TV is $5000 more than the PM940-V. Is that necessary when my largest part is 26" long, and the X-travel of the PM940-V is 30" after CNC set up? Machining times aren't too relevant. I can spare the extra time doing a hobby.

I think what Jim alluded to is the availability of some pretty high quality used CNC machines that are fairly cheap because the controls are out of date. Short of buying a ready made machine your options are to convert a hobby level machine (which there are kits for) or replacing the controls on a commercial unit. Which way to go is personal choice but working any machine right out to it's limits invites problems.

I'd encourage you to read some of the CNC conversion threads and other discussion on the topic in this forum section.
