Just got a 12" Delta disk sander (31-140) and it comes with a 80 grit sanding disk. I just want to debur mild steel - what is a good grit? No wood. 1750 rpm.

Thanks, Jim

I use 80 or 60. The key is to buy zirconium oxide discs. I have found them to have a better lifespan.

rwm is right about the zirconium oxide. Go pretty course (40) - you can still get a reasonable finish by not pushing so hard. It will cut cooler and last longer. When you need to, it will cut pretty fast (of course heating up and shortening the life - but that is up to you).

OK, thanks I'll check into the z.o. discs,

JK
