What do you prefer in a DTI?

Hi!

I bought two DTIs for my shop, both B&S Best Test indicators, one is a 7021-3, I believe, with a .0001 increment, and one is a 7032-3 with a .0005 increment.

My question is essentially, which one is preferable for a newbie doing ordinary amateur machinist setups?

What makes do most people prefer, and in what increments, half thousand or one tenth of a thousand.

Thanks!

Re: What do you prefer in a DTI?

I have a couple of Best Test DTI's (.0005") that I use 90% of the time. I have a couple of Interapid as well that only get used for those "special" projects.
Considering that the DRO on my mill has a resolution of .0002", indicating to half that would be a waste of time (for me) anyway.

If a hobbyist can hold a .0005" tolerance, they are doing pretty dog gone well AFAIC.... :)
