Vortec or not to vortec?

My understanding of the vortec heads is the piston dish shape plays as important of a role as the chamber design.
I like them but more importantly it works.

Not too many V8 here but the few that are here often come to me to fix them. Best chevy engine i come across had MAST motorsport cylinder heads.

I'm not sure what the piston looks like. The spec sheet says 8.5 to 1 compression ratio. I had the valve cover off and was surprised to find comp 1.6 rockers on the engine. But unfortunately I didn't pay any attention to the casting number on the head. I'll pull the cover off again and see is I can find something. I really don't want to raise the compression ratio.

From what I can see MAST motorsports only has LS style heads.

I found a nice set of dart 200 heads for a killer price, but their website says they are good for 383 to 410 engines. Ports are too big for low end performance.

The higher compression is what makes those engines come alive, it's too bad you don't have higher octane fuel at the pumps.
