I made this for my mill vice, really makes it much faster. 1/2 X 2" 6061 aluminum bar stock. Rotary handle & shaft is 12L14 steel bar. Handle spins on shaft and is retained by ball bearings with a spring load. Handle has a groove milled for the balls to snap into. I stopped the ball hole just short of going through. Inserted the ball, spring and 2nd ball then tried to peen the hole to retain every thing. Spent a lot of time chasing balls and springs around the shop. Need a stronger spring as it is possible to easily pull the handle off the shaft but it works for now.
I used the rotary table to mill the circular shapes and to mill the hexes. I filed the corners. Finish was done with a die grinder and 2" Scotch bright pads.

Nice job on the handle. I loke the idea of a ball detent. I have to use a I can relate to chasing balls and springs. Sometimes I think that I should be sitting in the bathtub whenever working with springs and ball bearings. That worked for my cat and mice.
