Use the mill as a lathe

Hi Guys

This was one of those times when the lathe had a unfinished job still in it, and I wanted to make a new handle for my QCTP.

The handle , and ball are 1-piece, and all machined on the mill with the exception of the thread. That I did that last, and waited till the lathe was free to single point the threads.

To cut the taper, I just tilted the mill head, and mounted a HSS lathe bit in the vice, sideways I might add. I left a straight section on the end that was getting threads so I could also have a section to grab in the chuck of the lathe when threading . The rotary table was used with my boring head to cut the ball. The rotary tables worm gear was dissengaged to make it free wheel. I had milled a piece of stock to make several T-nuts, and used it as a make shift handle. All worked out pretty good, and here are a few pics. Not the usual way, but hey, think outside the box eh!

Pics not working for me, I would love to see this, as I want to use my mill for a lathe from time to time.

NVM, they are working now. Pretty swift setup!
