I saw this unusual item recently and wondered if it is a dual angle block for some strange and wonderful specific application or what? It's 450mm long (almost 18in).

It appears to be softer material due to the tapped holes in it.

The one we used in the distant past we called a toolmakers iron, and was accurate to less than a 10th per side in parallel and square. Mainly used for setups on a surface plate, but sometimes found it's way to setups on the mill (but only by the most senior toolmaker). Ours cost nearly 10K$ back in '80
