My buddy needed the lift for his hoover craft tweaked so I made a cup/spacer/shim to go over a bearing and do 2 things, make the bearing fit snugly in the tubing and make it set on the bottom of a solid piece so it would actually function. I need to make another shim for the top but it will be a bit more difficult as there will be no bottom in it to help keep it in the chuck.

Charley, looks great. I left you two guys alone this afternoon and you got something done! Assuming you need another sleeve could you machine the top sleeve with a temporary bottom to keep it in the chuck and then carefully machine most of it away and then trim the remainer off with a razor knife to finish? Or maybe just saw the sleeve off of the temp. bottom with a hacksaw while in the lathe?

I seen a kewl way to do light machining by mit
he used a face plate and double backed sticky tape to hold the part
I not sure that will help you but he was making big washers out of thin metal
I tried it on the mill to hold a small flat part and it worked well
everything has to be very clean
