HF winches are pretty good. I mounted one in my ceiling for lifting transmissions and engines (4 cyl) for installation. It's a little jerky with heavy weight but probably pefect for what you are using it for.

I went and looked at one of those today. It is way too light duty for my vise. Also it has a freewheel button that could
prove to be a disaster if it let go during the move. I have decided to get a 1/2 ton chain hoist but have not been
able to find one anywhere. There are lots of 1, 1.5, 2, 3 and 5 ton chain hoists to be seen but nothing in half ton.

Here's an update on my cart and trolley with the chain fall hoist and multi layered cart.
The chains reside in the coffee can overhead and out of the way until needed. I'm
pretty happy with the results and the removable top rack makes for a handy rolling cart by the lathe.
