Some tool holders I made.
I read an article on tangential tool holders and was intrigued, so I built one, it worked great, so, I built some more. The only problem I've found with them is they do limit access to the work in some case.
I made a few for 6mm square HSS blanks and one for round HSS. The holders are all built up designs using 16mm square, black bar, linished, machined on the lathe and the bits welded together. All have different angles for trial purposes, about the only difference it made was the more upright the tool the squarer the cutting edge.
Next, I made some standard type holders with various angled rear rakes, again for trial purposes. All worked well, so, I never bothered making anymore.
The tool holders are all sized to suit my lathe and made from rubbish I had lying around. They've been in use for over 10 years.
I also made up a jig for sharpening the bits for the tangentials to get the rake correct.
