The guy I bought my house from did contract machine work, had a small one man shop in the garage.
To him, fixing anything around the house usually involved machining in some way.
I was pruning some shrubs way back in the corner of the yard and discovered two large plates of metal at the base of
the fence, being used to block off the neighbor's doggies from visiting. To my delight, one is brass! Both are 1/4" thick.
The brass measures 13" x 21.5" and the aluminum is 18" x 60" I figure at least 300 bucks for the two. I'm sure thankful today!

I bought the place in '89, brass (and copper) was a lot cheaper then
Looks like the aluminum piece is actually 3/16" thick but I'm not complaining :)

Years ago they were extremely cheap to buy . I use to get brass rods for ten bucks a length twelve ft. Still have several I'm waiting for retirement funds. The sizes usually up to an inch. Hex stock too. Aluminum was a reasonable then.

I thought this thread was about Things left behind by your pet.

A machinist friend found in his backyard a 3" round x 5' piece of aluminum buried in his back yard.
Nice score, can't recall ever finding anything good in my backyard.
