Hey Guys,

What techniques do you use to keep from breaking or losing the heads on small center drills?

Thanks,

Nelson

Mostly air blast and gentle pressure on the mill. Flood coolant on the lathe. Air would probably work there just as well. Kind of depends on the material. Sure hate breaking them off. Then the fun begins! :)

If I can add, with small and very small centerdrills...make sure your spindle speed is"up to speed". If too slow, there is more chance of grabbing and breaking the drill point off. I too use a small air blast, or brush while constantly backing out from drilling to clear the chips...same for small dia. drilling in general but more so.
