View media item 95781View media item 95780The materials costed $12.00 so not a big investment. The straight edge was made of mild steel
and built as a weldment. I don't know how dimensionally stable this thing will be but time will tell
I guess. It's roughed in and about ready for a treatment on a huge surface grinder. I can tell that
the center is high by a few thousandths. I'm considering a bit of hammering with a
ball pien or maybe even heating it up or maybe both treatments before surface grinding.
It's 27 inches long.

Materials used, all mild steel:

5/8 x 1.5 inch bar 27 inches long
1/4 x 4 inch plate 27 inches long
1/4 x 1 inch top strap about 30 inches long

That looks great. Have it shot peaned maybe, or (here I go again) cyro-treated even. Mike
