Hi:

I just acquired a used Birmingham step pulley knee mill. Like most bridgeport clones, it has high and low for spindle speed and it also has a switch with high and low.
My question: What happens if the mill is in back gear and the motor switch is on high? Will this negatively affect the machine?

Thanks,
Ben

It will just run in reverse. When in back gear the rotation is reversed. Usually the switch is labeled "forward" one way, and "reverse" in the other, when in high range. When in low range, it is just the opposite.

Welcome to the forum, Ben. Got lots of taildragger time myself. Champ, J3 Cub, T-Craft, Citabria, Decathlon, Scout tow plane, Pitts S1, Cessna 140, RV-6, and ~2K hours in sailplanes.

Are you saying your clone mill has a two speed motor?
