Spindle sizes (1" vs 1 3/8")

The info from Mr. Knox indicates that all 11" lathes had 1 3/8" bores, but they don't. Mine and several others I know of have 1" spindle bores. It has had me wondering, because I bought mine expecting to have a 1 3/8 spindle and figured it may have been replaced at some point. I was reading through the old sheldon catalog today and noticed something important that was left out of Mr. Knox's info. Only the ball/roller bearing lathes had the larger 1 3/8" spindle bore while the plain bearing models had the smaller 1" bore. So if anyone has been wondering why there is a discrepancy, that's why.
