Today's shop project was to convert horizontal shelving into vertical shelving so I can maximize floor space.

I made drilled gusset plates, then drilled and tapped vertical shelving legs so they can be bolted and stacked. X-Bracing will be added to back on on each side to reduce racking.

Nice job!
I love a bit of recycling, reusing or whatever they call it nowadays.
Cheers

Thank you Sycle1 for the kind words.

I had acquired these shelving units along with some equipment. They were assembled as 3 long sections. I was going to try and sell them. But that would have been silly, as I'd have get a replacement for all the stuff sitting on the floor.

So it was better to try and reconfigure.

Cheers! back to you.

Rick

Every little bit helps.
Some people are super organized with everything put away and labeled.
I just try to keep the heaps to a minimum of small piles. Sometimes that does not go too well.

Hi Piper 184,

Thanks for the insights. Yes I have been organizing all my equipment and supplies. I have been using plastic bins and zip-loc bags to keep like items with like items. Then the totes get organized on shelves in a way that makes sense to my work flow and frequency of use.

The low use items go higher up.

Here are a few pics showing my organization process which is ongoing.

Nice job!
I am doing a major reorganization of my shop.
I removed this wooden shelving and am moving all the stuff to some pallet racking I bought for the other stall of the garage.
But...
I reused the plywood decking for the pallet racks. That meant everything in the wood shelves had to go on Every flat surface and all over the floor of my shop.
Yikes what a mess!
I need floor space along that wall for my drill press, two grinders, sander, arbor press, band saw, tool box, a metal cabinet, etc.
My friend stopped by yesterday and was shocked by the mess I have in here.
Then he said, "Well, it's nothing a match wouldn't fix." :)

Shelving unit done and filled up. Didn't take long to fill that space. But the vertical storage configuration was a big plus over a 15 feet long stretch of shelving.
