I've had a blank around for sometime, about 5+ years, I cut from a furriers file. Was going to make a Sgian Duhb (Scottish 'Black Dagger') for a friend who's into the Scottish Highland games and re-enactments. Found the blank a few days ago, once again, and decided to do it even tho' my friend has moved to another state.

It won't be a real Sgian Duhb but patterned on the design. Not really machine work, just a lot of grinding and 'stone' work. Been using a diamond whet stone on it to clean the rough surfaces and see what else I need to 'shape'. I guess grinding could be machinist handwork.

I'm not a knife maker by any means but like the project Idea...we'll see where it goes. If I had a surface grinder I'd go after the file/rasp marks with more energy. Since I don't I'll leave them as evidence of where it comes from.

I could move this over to the knife making sub forum if you like.
I think you will get better answers and advice there.
Let me know.

Thanks, not sure what I'd need to ask. Just stumbling through this one

Let's give it a try and see if you can get some traction over there. If not I can always move it back.
