I bought my SC4 from Travers about 10 years ago. It is serial number 80019.

It is starting to show some wear and needs some adjustments to the carriage, also I was having problems with using a parting blade diving under the piece at the very end of the cut. The SC4 is unusual in that in the carriage has "press plates" in the front and gibs in the rear. I tightened the press plate screws as tight as I could. I tightened the gig adjusting screws as tight as I could with a jeweler's screwdriver and I did it at far left as I could to be in the part of the ways with the most wear. If I lift on the carriage wheel there is still about .020 to .030 play in the carriage. There is more resistance to turning the carriage wheel, but it is acceptable. Is this amount of pay normal?
