My Master Gearhead motor needs to be disassembled, cleaned up, and probably restored.
Someone on the Yahoo Burke #4 list is doing it.

Has anyone on here taken this on?

I need step by step instructions on what to do to clean this up and get it running.

Is that your unit pictured or the "someone else's" you mentioned? If that's yours, did the motor run before you took it apart? Cleaning is pretty straightforward (my hands feel greasy just looking at those pictures LOL) You'll have to check the bearings, gears and brushes. The comutator should be carefully cleaned (that's the part the brushes press against) and checked for wear, skimmed on a lathe if necessary and undercut. A motor shop should do that last part.

Nels, look on the Hardinge section and the posting by CO1859 part 3 snap crackle pop there's mention of a video about skimming and undercutting comutators on motors it looks like you could do it yourself

These are from the Yahoo Burke thread. I have exactly the same motor.
I am wondering if I should just send it to a motor shop to be refurbished.

If it seems to be running OK and doesn't make any horrible noises I would just use it as is. Looks like a lot of work to refurbish.
