Rest Pins

Guys I need acouple of those harden rest pins thats for the tool post and was wondering about just purchasing a rod then grind the 45* and cut to length.What type of steel would a person need for this task?I see the pins on ebay for about 14.plus shipping---Tks kroll
 
If you mean # 10-309 used to lock the compound to the cross slide pintle on Atlas 10" and 12" lathes, they don't appear to be hardened. At least the sample I used to make a sketch of it last Summer wasn't. And the angle is 60 deg., not 45. I just uploaded the sketch I did to the Atlas/Clausing... folder. Look for Atlas Lock Pin 10-309.
