Replacing x- axis alsgs power feed plastic drive gear

My ALSGS 500s power feed has a fouled tooth on the big Zytel plastic gear in the bottom of the unit. I removed the gear to replace it. The gear is retained with a wave washer and a snap ring.
I'm having difficulty replacing the snap ring because of the pressure from the wave spring washer.
Is there a trick to getting the assembly compressed to replace the snap ring and complete assembly?

Just order a new one. comes assembled with center drive.

I made a cup with open side and used the quil to press it down didn't take much force

The gear usually comes as an assembly, looks like Grizzly sells this ALSGS drive as H8s70. On my Align drives it lists the same gear assembly for all their AL-300, 400 and 500S models.

Got the assembly back together. I made a cup tool out of pvc pipe with a small window in it.
Used that tool to compress the wave washer with my press.
