We have turned down the shank before, but the boss sees that as a waste of time and money since we change them fairly often. Too much work for a $2-4 drill bit. That's why we got the drill chucks to make changing them easy.
The problem with SYOZ-25 collets is that they start at 1/8" and move up in increments of 1/16". The collet manufacturers have already told me a big fat NO on making a couple of custom sized collets.
It sounds like this is more a work-place political issue now.
It may be time to start managing that manager......just don't let him/her know that's what your doing
Unfortunately you have already purchased a collet system that does not support all the sizes you need.
If that was the managers doing, then no skin off you.
It sounds like you have two options to give to the "boss":
1) continue turning down the drill bit shanks every time, or
2) get management support for the time and tools to grind your own custom collets once.
Let him/her decide, that's what they are paid for.
Good Luck!
