Anyone know a good, cheap, source for a quill read out?

One that's made from a a six inch caliper and bolts right in front of the quill on Bridgeport style machines.

I still miss ENCO for items like this.

See Alan H's post from yesterday. He followed Abom79's install of the Mitutoyo Quill kit, (but not very cheap)

For cheap, you can't beat the HF type digital calipers. If you catch them on sale they can be as low as $10. They will take some work to modify them though. I drilled mounting holes with a carbide drill and cut off extraneous bits. I believe that someone on this forum made a mounting bracket that didn't require drilling the caliper.

The next cheapest would be the iGaging type DRO. It can be had for $30-40, including shipping on eBay.

CDCO has quill DRO's starting at $45 for a 5". I put one on my RF-30 a few years back and it's still working fine.

I have used the Mitutoyo version but the unit from CDCO is much less and works just fine.
